Nature cast and spread its green vegetation blanket. River goddess Mother Godavari milched, nourished and brought gold wealth in the form of paddy. Cyclones in 80’s, forced the farmer in search of green pastures. The result is green revolution turned to blue revolution. It started in 1980, up to 1994 Aqua culture rained Dollars rain. Prawn and Fish cultures brought a tremenderous change in the lives, and in the structure of villagers and villages.

Until then, the farmer who faced the wrath of nature in the form of cyclones. Make him shift from Agriculture to Aquaculture. Farmer’s income and life style champed. Unexpectedly many farmers become “Neuve rich”. They become Lakhpathis, Crorepathis and Billionaires.

Most of the farmers, digged Aqua tanks through their farm lands giving 30 to 40 bags paddy yield. Many fertile lands turned into Aqua tanks.

In West Godavari District alone approximately more than 75 thousand acres brought under aqua culture in that especially only in Narsapur division brought 50 thousand acres under Aqua culture.

Reduce in paddy culture, pollution to drinking water in some parts of the district, Government of Andhra Pradesh banned, new digging of aqua tanks. Inspite of these measures farmers are still yielding “blue culture”. Few years back the farmer of this district send a proposal to Govt of India , for an Air port to export & marketing. With this instance, we can imagine what a jet speed has been taken place in blue revolution.

For the past some years, some farmers with Dollars greediness, without any experience, inculture, marketing and scientific out look.. Entered into this field and burned their fingers. Changes in International Market, Dumping cess, Prices, Diseases brought down the yield and price made the farmer sustained loss. Excessive use of Anti Biotech, Residues, Mud smell products failure to reach international standards, broke the back bone of the farmer.

Recently, USA, Japan, and other European countries returned the containers for not reaching their set standards. This posed a challenge to the aqua farmers. Lack of Scientific Knowledge, Pollution, Spread of Viral Diseases, no marketing support at national level, governments support and pesticides, White Spot Disease, Increasing in the cost of feed, Lack of irrigation facilities. Increase in Govt cess. Mud smell, no minimum support price, all brought misery in the lives of aqua farmers.

Inspite of these hard ships, Aqua farmers still continuing aquaculture hoping the next crop yield, though he lost the present. Aqua culture which started in 80’s in Nellore District gradually spread to other districts such as Krishna and West Godavari District, Kolleru, and other North Andhra Costal districts. Gradually aqua product become the capital of these regions. Brought a change in world economic scenario and ultimately brought name to Bhimavaram region as it become main export center and hub of aqua culture.

Recently Govt of India established aqua labs in these region. Govt of India giving training, contact classes guidance at field level to over come the miseries of farmers and support through MPEDA and through department of fisheries, now the farmers producing quality aqua products meeting not only international standards but also, international marketing competition from other nations.
